Glove boxes provide controlled isolated work environments for processing samples or handling air-sensitive materials while maintaining an anaerobic environment. ANFF-Q has several glove boxes with nitrogen gas environments.

Device testing glove box

The device testing glove box provides a controlled isolated work environment for processing samples or testing air-sensitive devices. The device testing glove box is equipped with a solar cell QE/IPCE/IV measurement system, a solar cell simulator, and a semiautomatic probe station.

Encapsulation glove box

The encapsulation glove box provides a controlled isolated work environment for processing samples or handling air-sensitive materials for device packaging. The encapsulation glove box is equipped with a UV–ozone cleaner, a vacuum oven, an auto dispenser, and a UV exposure unit.

The UV–ozone cleaner has a number of applications, including:

  • Surface cleaning
  • Preparation of surfaces for thin film deposition and surface treatment
  • UV curing
  • Surface sterilization
  • Improving surface hydrophilicity
  • Removal of surface monolayers

Examples of use

Sample treatment, device packaging, and UV curing for epoxy.

Purpose:

Fabrication facilities with a fully inert atmosphere for the creation of soft electronic devices.

Material systems:

Glove box unit with solvent purification system

The glove box provides an inert atmosphere for the safe handling of moisture and oxygen sensitive chemicals and activities. The class of activities that are carried out in a glove box unit can range from working with Class 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 materials through to hydroscopic materials such as many metal chlorides and hydroxides, carcinogenic materials or toxins.

The MBraun glove box unit has two separate glove boxes connected via a large antechamber. The unit also has a solvent purification unit that a selection of five different purified and dry solvents can be accessed from either the front of the purification unit or inside the glove box assembly.

The glove box assembly contains equipment such as a balance, stirrers and hotplate for use with the most common glove box applications. It also contains a freezer for the storage of unstable, moisture and/or oxygen sensitive materials.

Example of use:

Handling of carcinogenic materials or biological toxins such as asbestos.

Handling of moisture sensitive reaction precursors such as metal catalysts, metal chlorides, metal hydroxides.

Preparation of MCP-milling of zirconia for use as an abrasive using zirconium oxychloride as the sample precursor.

Delivers the following solvents pure with oxygen and moisture levels <1.0 ppm: dicholormethane, diethyl ether tetrahydrofuran, toluene and dimethyl formamide.

Glove box with integrated vacuum evaporators

The glove box system is a hermetically sealed enclosure and provides a working space that is completely segregated from the outside. It is designed to maintain an artificial atmosphere consisting of pure nitrogen with a concentration of oxygen and water vapour below 1 ppm. It is used to protect the product from unwanted reactions with oxygen or water vapour. The glove box system permanently circulates the gas between the glove box and the gas purification system, in order to maintain the controlled environment.

There are two evaporator units inside the glove box, each has three thermal evaporators. Evaporator one is used to evaporate organic materials while evaporator two is for metals and also has a one DC PVD sputter head.

Examples of use

Multilayer thin film deposition can be performed and controlled within the nanometre range in this system.

The glove box system is necessary to fabricate the devices such as:

  • Solar cells
  • Organic Light emitting diodes (OLEDs)
  • Organic thin film transistors (OFETs)

The thermal evaporators can be used to develop different types of microelectronics, optical and optoelectronics chips in many different kinds of applications.
